Diary of a Sweaty Mom: Do You Even Lift?!

Image
Do You Even Lift?!!   I got that quote from a motivation playlist on Apple Music. It’s one of my fav selections as well because it gets me so pumped to LIFT and go hard. However, at one point I did NOT lift! I avoided it like the plague.  Listen , I used to be the cardio QUEEN!!!!! I would do everything but touch the weights. If I had to, I usually kept it light because I was afraid of bulking up.  I was completely ignorant to how beneficial strength training can be. As a result, my upper body strength suffered.    Many women, avoid the weights at the gym or in their home gym. Personally, I’ve had weights for a long time but barely touched unless I was doing some aerobic exercises.  However, it’s not uncommonly to just neglect strength training all together. According to a study by the American Journal of Preventative Health, nearly 60 percent of people do NOT do any strength training of any kind at all (2018). That’s a huge problem!    My ...

No Excuses NOVEMBER!!!!

Image
No Excuses November!!!!   All month I have been posting on my Instagram regarding this mantra!!! Every year, around this time, I start to slow down, and become reclusive. Between the combination of the weather change, time change, kids activities increasing, holidays, and birthdays; easily, I would become overwhelmed. I would stop whatever fitness routine or diet that I started, and use every reason under the sun for why I would barely workout.  Then I would get into the habit of putting off my health and fitness goals until 'after the holidays.' By the time the holidays were over, I would be up 10-30lbs, starting all over again.  Then the cycle would repeat.  This year, I made the decision to hold myself accountable by declaring this month No Excuses November. My birthday is November 17th, and I usually like to eat, drink, and party.  This year, I decided to celebrate myself, and how far I have come through my healthy lifestyle journey. Its a celebration...

Diary of a Sweaty Mom: No Photos Please

Image
Diary of a Sweaty Mom: No Photos Please   Let me tell you about low body confidence, I suffered from it so bad that that meme that you just chuckled at was my real LIFE! After having my daughter in 2017, still carrying the weight and then some, pics were the LAST thing I wanted to do. I used to avoid body pics like COVID, family pics from the boobs down were NOT an option. Any pics that were taken got deleted. Seriously, I only have, maybe, 5 pictures in my phone from when I was 248lbs. I was dead set on not taking any pics.  I know that I am not alone. There are plenty of other women that don’t like what they see in the mirror. According to article “11 Facts About Body Image,” from DoSomething.org, 91% of women were not happy with their body image and resorted to dieting to change it. And only 5% of women have the “ideal body” that is portrayed in American culture.  All of this is just disappointing but it’s facts! I take my body image day by day because some days, I AM ...

Story of My Sweaty Mom Life: Stubborn Baby Belly Fat

Image
Story of My Sweaty Mom Life: Stubborn Baby Belly Fat  Let me tell you, stubborn baby belly fat has been my struggle since having my first son in 2009. Before conceiving him, I was always thick but I did not have much of stomach.  Anyway, I snapped back pretty well after giving birth to him, I was still in my 20s, but after having my daughter in my 30s, it’s one of thee hardest things to rid myself of. I know it’s a struggle for other women as well. My 4 year-old daughter is always playing with it, all I can do is laugh to keep from crying. Loose skin is literally the pits, I’m determined to tighten it as tight as physically possible through holistic methods.  I celebrate the fact that I have lost 50lbs naturally without any: Pills Liquid shots Waist Trainers Surgery Restrictive dieting  However, I’m not numb to the fact that I have loose skin around my stomach due to giving child birth and obesity. Im human, I go through the motions at times. Sometimes...

CALL TO ACTION!!!!!!!! PRIORITIZE YOUR HEALTH!!!

Image
CALL TO ACTION!!!!!!!! PRIORITIZE YOUR HEALTH!!! Almost 4 years ago after having my second child, I believed that it would be next to impossible to “SnapBack” after thirty years old! The thought of having to make time for my weight loss goals, take care of my children, work full-time, and maintain a household led to increased stress and anxiety.    Before my breakthrough, I would start and stop a fitness challenge due to any obstacles that came my way.    There were always obstacles:  Son started basketball  Work stressors Regular kids doctor/dental visits Breastfeeding schedule  Household Maintenance  You name it, there was just always something!! However, I would still feel guilt at times because I felt that I was taking time away from my family and the time spent with them. I really needed time for myself but I didn’t know how to start!! I had no outside support from family because we just moved from one city to the next and knew no one other t...

Busy Moms: Last on the Priority List

Image
Busy Moms: Last on the Priority List   As a busy mother of two, I have been guilty of putting my health needs last on my list of things to do. According to a survey in Healthy Women and Working Mothers, more women have the same issue with putting their health first! Check out the stats!  The high percentage of women who put their health and wellness last on the list is astounding. However, as a busy mom who associates with other busy moms, this information is not entirely surprising! I don’t know how many times I have heard women state that they would do this or that regarding their health and fitness journey but just simply can’t figure out how to fit themselves into their busy schedule. The kids always need something or the family always comes first, so YOU take a backseat. Then it becomes a habit that is hard to break, which leads to neglect of your health and wellness.  That neglect could be your potential downfall, you could end up dead before you decide that...
